Susan Vogt Leadership Development Program

Offered by The Boston Consortium, the Susan Vogt Leadership Development Program honors the work and spirit of Susan Vogt, Vice President of Finance and Treasurer at Wellesley College from 2000 to 2003. The program carries on her legacy by connecting, developing, and supporting emerging leaders from The Consortium’s member institutions, including MIT.

About the Program

The program leverages experiential learning, behavioral theory, and coaching principles to help participants increase self-awareness, enhance communication and collaboration skills, and lead with greater intentionality and impact.

The program is delivered virtually over seven months (with three in-person gatherings) and includes a self-rated assessment, facilitated group learning modules, group coaching, and an online learning hub.

Visit The Boston Consortium website to learn more about the program, including the schedule for the 2024-25 program, which begins in September. Note: Please do not complete the application form on The Consortium website.

Applying for the MIT Slot

As a member of The Boston Consortium, MIT receives one slot each year for the Susan Vogt Leadership Development Program. The MIT participant is selected from the applicants by a team in Human Resources.

Selection Considerations

  • Current role and responsibilities
  • Leadership skills that the applicant would like to develop
  • Anticipated benefit of participation to the department, lab, center, or institute (DLCI)
  • Applicant’s commitment to a career at MIT

Sponsorship Requirement

Applicants must have the approval of a sponsor in their DLCI. The sponsor is generally the applicant's manager or the DLCI HR manager. It is necessary for the sponsor to:

  • Agree that the DLCI will pay the tuition (tuition for the upcoming program can be found on The Boston Consortium website.)
  • Commit to supporting the applicant’s full participation in the program, including time away from the office to attend the sessions
  • Provide a short statement of support for the applicant's participation in the program
