Information on Deemed Retirement for Required Minimum Distribution (RMD)
If you have reached RMD age* and worked part-time earning less than $10,000 in a calendar year, you will be deemed retired as of January 1 of the following calendar year for plan distribution purpose. As a result, you will be required to begin the RMD process under the applicable retirement plans (e.g., the 401(k), 457(b), and Pension Plans).
* RMD age is age 73 if you were born on or after January 1, 1951, age 72 if you were born after June 30, 1949 and before January 1, 1951, or age 70 ½ if you were born before July 1, 1949 for retirement plans. Note: if you were born after December 31, 1959, your RMD age is age 75 for the 457(b) plan only; it remains age 73 for the 401(k) and Pension Plans.
