Tell Us About It:
In August I needed medical treatments that resulted in temporary memory loss, and I realized that I was unable to do my work. I was especially concerned because I had just become an MIT employee as of July 1 and had little sick time. From 2012 until June 30 I had been an MITemp employee and had built up time off, but lost this. I really thought I might lose my job. When I told my supervisor, Ronnie Haas, she immediately responded that she would help me obtain a short-term medical leave. I was truly astounded that this would even be possible. In addition, last February I had made plans to take a vacation the first week of November. Of course, I no longer thought this was possible. Ronnie assured me that taking the medical leave and vacation time were completely separate. There was no reason why I could not do both. The medical leave was approved to take effect August 16 - Oct. 15. Then on Oct. 31st, I was able to enjoy a relaxing week in Florida. Ronnie has continued to be very supportive. Her understanding and compassion has made such a difference during this tumultuous year.
