The next recipient of the Outstanding Contributor award is Elizabeth Mahaffy.
Her colleagues tell us that Libby is the embodiment of the model citizen. Her work has paved the way for teams and individuals to work together better, to work more thoughtfully, and with genuine collaboration. In her current role as Diversity and Inclusion Specialist in Human Resources, she is helping to create and reinforce programs that support inclusion at MIT. Prior to joining HR, she was Assistant Director for Conflict Management in the Division of Student Life, and in that role, her impact was felt across many parts of MIT.
One nominator wrote: “I hold Libby’s commitment and passion towards improving the overall MIT community in the highest regard. From her continued drive to constantly improve her life skill trainings, thus providing the best possible experience, to her ongoing coaching and mentoring, Libby has been a great resource to all at MIT.”
And here’s an anecdote that a graduate student shared about Libby: “In 2015, some friends and I were working to launch Lean on Me, an anonymous peer-support training hotline. We met with countless organizations across campus that we hoped could guide us. Two years later, Lean On Me has grown into a national movement with more than 100 volunteers and chapters at many leading universities. We credit the success of this program to our stellar training materials, based in very large part on Libby’s expertise.”
Libby, congratulations on your Outstanding Contributor award!
