Stephen F. Newman, Jr.

Senior Strategic Sourcing Analyst
Office of the Vice President for Finance
Serving the Client
Award presented by
Israel Ruiz, Executive Vice President and Treasurer

The next Serving the Client recipient is from the Office of the Vice President for Finance. His title is “Senior Strategic Sourcing Analyst—Furniture,” but most people think of him as “MIT’s Resident Furniture Expert.”  He is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing almost all the furniture for the Institute. Stephen Newman believes that furniture can have a big impact on your daily life, and he brings that philosophy to his support of the 20,000 members of our community as they work, sit, sleep…and play. Stephen very expertly fitted out the new Technology Childcare Centers, much to the enduring delight of children, parents, and the TCC staff.

His nominator noted, “Stephen will always go out of his way to help his customers. Further, he always has an open mind and is a natural problem solver. He clearly identifies issues and works towards solutions where everyone wins.”

One of his colleagues summed up his far-reaching contributions this way, “Stephen builds meaningful and insightful working relationships with colleagues and vendors. With his deep industry knowledge, expert design sense, and customer-centric style, he has become a high-impact MIT resource.”

Congratulations to Stephen for his Serving the Client award!
