Office of Sponsored Programs
Leading Change
Characterized as someone who is always striving to find a better way and who is proactive, initiates, embraces and encourages change, this next individual is Julie Norris, Director of the Office of Sponsored Programs. Her bias for change is shown in the work that is within her purview at MIT as well as in the changes she promotes through her work in professional organizations and her interactions with representatives at Federal agencies. She is very involved in federal regulations-it is she, more than many of her peers at other institutions, who has studied the legislation, established strong working relationships with federal officials, and sought out legal opinions to fully understand the issues and develop MIT's policies. Peers at other institutions look to her for leadership and guidance in dealing with these complex issues. Because of these collaborative relationships that she has worked hard to cultivate, and because of her exemplary reputation, MIT benefits from Julie's visibility and the opportunity to provide significant input on federal policies.
