MIT Police
Innovative Solutions

As MIT's first Police Officer assigned to a specific building on campus, this recipient is a shining star in his department and the Stata Center. Residents appreciate his friendliness, respect around sensitive issues, attending after-hours meetings, and juggling his schedule to benefit others. He excels in addressing community needs and concerns. One of his many initiatives, the "STOP-IN" program, increases police interaction with Stata Center departments. He compiled a list of AO's, their rooms, and phone numbers; patrol officers "STOP-IN" with AO's and staff, complete brief security surveys, and assist as needed, putting names to faces. The initiative receives an enthusiastic response from Stata tenants.

Smart, capable, and efficient, DOC (his nickname) takes pride in his work. He should! Excellent interpersonal skills, remarkable calm in tense situations, and a can-do attitude make DOC hugely productive, highly valued, and downright irreplaceable. Officer David O'Connor, we proudly present you with an MIT Excellence Award for your innovative approach to policing at MIT. Congratulations.
