Student loan debt has an overwhelming impact on the lives of graduates and parents alike. With college costs ever rising, graduating in debt has become the new normal for college students and their parents, and with this debt comes financial challenges unknown to previous generations. This workshop will help borrowers successfully navigate the transition from college to repayment and empower graduates and parents with personalized strategies to take control of their education debt. Attendees will learn:
- How to identify repayment responsibilities for each loan
- Options for repayment, refinancing, and consolidation
- Latest updates on Public Service Loan Forgiveness, including the legislative landscape of the SAVE plan
- Ways to reduce monthly payments or realize other financial objectives
- How to avoid becoming delinquent and defaulting on education debt, even during times of personal economic hardship
Presenter: Alex Bickford, M.B.E.; Director, College Finance, Bright Horizons College Coach
Alex Bickford joined Bright Horizons College Coach as part of the college financing team from the education finance department of Citizens Bank. Before his stint with Citizens, he worked as an Assistant Director of Financial Aid at Southern New Hampshire University. Alex has spent most of his professional career working in financial aid and has assisted traditional undergraduate, adult learners and master's degree students in financing their educations. He has a master’s degree in business education, a bachelor's degree in hotel and restaurant management, and an associate's degree in culinary arts.
