This recipient of a Bringing Out the Best award is a long-term member of our community. His name is James Kelsey, and he is the Associate Director of the MIT-Bates Research and Engineering Center—part of the MIT Laboratory for Nuclear Science.
For four decades, Jim has been providing leadership in the design, construction, and operation of equipment for experiments at the very frontier of physics. But today, we’re recognizing him for other skills — skills that are just as significant: his transformational leadership and communication skills. Jim builds consensus and vital collaborations within and beyond MIT and is an exceptional mentor.
One of Jim’s colleagues summed up his impact, “Jim’s talents as an engineer are amazing, but just as important is his dedication to effective management and his high standards for helping others succeed.”
