2017 MIT Excellence Awards + Collier Medal ceremony

Our next recipient in the Outstanding Contributor category is Kimberly Benard. Kimberly is Assistant Director of Distinguished Fellowships at the Global Education and Career Development Center, in DUE. One of her nominators said, “We needed a very skilled person to review MIT’s withdrawal and readmission policy with the goal of offering our struggling students a greater range of support and options.”

Although Kim’s “day job,” so to speak, is dealing with the students who are thriving, she was passionate about giving all MIT students the chance to be excellent in their own time, on their own journey.

The new thinking that resulted from her wisdom and leadership has changed lives. As one of her nominators said, “Kim’s work has had a significant impact on the lives of MIT students. I have been involved in many faculty committees in my 32 years at MIT. I have worked with many capable staff members, but I would put Kim’s efforts at the top of these experiences. Her efforts catalyzed an important review of policies and practices that affect all our students—especially the most vulnerable.”

Let’s give Kimberly Benard a round of applause, and an Outstanding Contributor award!
