Presented by Eric Evans, Director, Lincoln Laboratory:

"Our next Unsung Hero award goes to the three dedicated members of the administrative staff from MIT Medical who comprise the Violence Prevention and Response Team.

Kelley Adams, Duane de Four, and Kate McCarthy, are being recognized today for their dedication to violence prevention in this community, especially their tireless efforts to educate the campus about sexual assault and to support the victims of such crimes. These three people do the work of a team three times the size, providing training nights and weekends and organizing the Sexual Assault Awareness month every April. For this event, they plan and execute a packed schedule of awareness experiences and training opportunities for all members of the community from young freshman to mature administrators. Members of the VPR also staff the 24/7 Violence Prevention hotline—working closely with nearly 100 survivors last year.

As one of their nominators noted, “Their work happens behind closed doors in private consultations across campus or in dorm rooms at 10 PM on a Sunday night. It’s astounding to consider how much dedication and time above and beyond normal work hours that this requires, but the VPR team values the opportunity to provide this resource to the community.”
