Serving the Client
Lab inspections, biosafety training, review of biological research protocols, and emergency response to biological hazards are all among the responsibilities of the assistant biosafety officer in the Environment, Health, and Safety Office. Problem-solving is critical to the job, and our awardee brings a collaborative, nonconfrontational approach to projects.
She understands that taking a service-oriented attitude will ultimately lead to safer lab practices, and she carries out her work with unassuming diligence. Beyond tackling her normal responsibilities, this past year she also developed a comprehensive program for campus-wide autoclave management. She researched the relevant regulations, compiled a database of campus machines, and created a training program for users.
She also developed an efficient way to perform calibration testing, doing much of the initial work herself, to ensure MIT meets new regulatory requirements—and maintains high standards for safety.
For your great work Serving the Client, thank you Shawna MacDonald
