Recruiting the best qualified candidates is critical to the success of Lincoln Laboratory. The Laboratory receives over 100 resumes a day, with about half of these from emails. Processing these resumes has been highly ineffective for a number of reasons:

  • It required a team of temporary hires to scan paper resumes;
  • It was difficult for hiring managers to interact with recruiters;
  • There was an excessive volume of irrelevant resumes; and
  • Hiring managers would frequently receive multiple copies of the same resume from different HR sources

A recommendation was made to install and implement a recruiting web system. This would allow external candidates to submit resumes directly from the web as well as provide an upgrade of the resume system for HR recruiters.

This new system automatically captures resumes and essentially eliminates the need for scanning. This system not only provides greater recruiting efficiencies but it also provides significant savings by eliminating the need for temporary hires. The Resumix Project Team has greatly improved the Laboratory's recruiting process. The technology improvements have led to a better online relationship with candidates and enhanced the quality of resume capture and online access to candidate documents by both recruiters and hiring managers.

This team is an example of how collaboration and team work can provide essential business process improvements. This was not a matter of simply purchasing and installing an effective software package. The Resumix Project Team built a solution, developed an implementation plan, executed the plan and provided end-user training and support.

For your thorough and effective development and implementation of this business process solution, we present you with the 2004-2005 MIT Excellence Award for Innovative Solutions.
