The assistant director for human resources and general services for the Laboratory for Nuclear Science has a 40-year record of effective management. He brings a wealth of knowledge and history, as well as a common-sense approach and unmatched compassion to his work, seeking win-win solutions wherever possible. When staff reductions were required at the Bates Linear Accelerator, he worked carefully to find new positions for those who wanted them. And when renovations were needed at the lab, he found innovative ways to make major changes with modest resources. Somehow he set up video conferencing for about $25,000, when the equipment could have cost $100,000 or more.
He is known throughout MIT as a role model for his energy, enthusiasm, and can-do attitude. Please congratulate Ken Hewitt.
