Innovative Solutions
Barton is MIT’s nickname for our implementation of ALEPH 500, a powerful but notoriously complex library management system. Christine L. Moulen, the Library Systems Manager, supports ALEPH but also pushes its limits, improving it for users everywhere. She fully meets the challenges of library operations and workflows, contributing her deep knowledge of the system, creativity, and willingness to go the extra mile. While most sites use canned reporting or purchase third-party software, her gifts for mapping and reporting data make her a celebrity among ALEPH institutions. People meeting her colleagues widen their eyes, smile, and want introductions to her. An annual management system meeting featured an elegant solution that she and a team provided. She accomplished the near-impossible in getting the Electronic Data Interchange process to invoice shipments of books ordered “on approval” and proposed a way to build invoices for firm orders. Whose masterful results offer breath-taking speed and grace? Christine L. Moulen leads her field and wins the award for Innovative Solutions!
