Department of Urban Studies and Planning
Building Bridges
Our first recipient has been described as "having a remarkable ability to build relationships with others, both within and outside of her Department." She is a master at getting numerous stakeholders to work together while managing their divergent interests. As Special Assistant in the Department of Urban Studies and Planning, this individual, Paula Anzer, touches the lives of many. On a daily basis, she works with faculty, students, alumni and colleagues across the Institute. She has successfully built strong working relationships with individuals in the Development Office, the Alumni Association, Career Services, as well as numerous employers. As a result of her efforts to connect students with invaluable resources and mentors, she is much appreciated by the alumni. They have commented repeatedly how much they value her ability to keep them informed and connected with the Department through the "first-rate" special events and publications that she manages." In addition, she is relied upon for her exceptional writing skills, the skillful way in which she communicates, and her ability to manage programs to their completion. Paula has been instrumental in raising money at the federal level and from the Ford Foundation. Both provide new sources of funding for minority students. She has also been the catalyst behind the development of new internship opportunities to enhance the students' field work experience." Paula's colleagues write that she has shown enormous commitment to her department's mission. She is an invaluable representative and a role model in every way. On behalf of the MIT community, we are pleased to present Paula Anzer with an MIT EXCELLENCE award for Building Bridges.
