At Lincoln Laboratory, there are still relatively few women at senior levels of the technical staff, and that can create a sense of isolation. Today’s awardees banded together to improve our work environment by creating a networking organization for women. The all-volunteer Lincoln Laboratory Technical Women’s Network Planning Committee plays a strong, lab-wide leadership role, promoting professional and social connections through discussion groups, speakers, and mentoring activities.
These events have made life at Lincoln Lab ‘more comfortable, enjoyable, and fulfilling.’ One supporter commented that ‘The mentoring program was the single most influential force in my quest for determining my life and career goals.’ This team has kept diversity on the front burner at the director’s office in a positive way, maximizing Lincoln Lab’s strengths.
I am delighted to be able to present the members of the Lincoln Laboratory Technical Women’s Network Planning Committee with this award for Fostering Diversity and Inclusion. Congratulations Leslie Weiner Alger, Emily Anesta, Nadya Bliss, Dr. Hsiao-hua Burke, Eva Cardarelli—who unfortunately was not able to attend today, Elizabeth Gustowt Champagne, Dr. Melissa Choi, Aimee D’Onofrio, Ellen Johnson, Karen Springford, Dr. Vyshnavi Suntharalingam, Anne Grover Vogel, Dr. Christine Wang, Michele Weatherwax, Dr. Marilyn Wolfson, and Tamara Yu.
