Office of the Provost
Building Bridges
Over the years, this next recipient has provided a sense of continuity and historical knowledge to the entire academic community. As Assistant Provost for Administration, Doreen Morris continually looks for ways to bring people together. She regularly brings the 5 schools and research together to ensure timely dialogues. She serves on numerous committees, including the Administrative Systems and Processes Coordinating Council, and was a key figure in reconstituting the Administrative Advisory Committee, helping to give it strength and purpose. Administrators, deans and faculty benefit from Doreen's creative problem-solving and willingness to facilitate the interactions between the academic areas and the Provost's Office. She is viewed as a true advocate for Departments, Labs and Centers. It has been said that in the Schools, everything runs more smoothly because of her patient and competent guidance. Doreen continually shares her extensive knowledge and expertise. Many administrators have acknowledged her ability to mentor and have been motivated by the example she sets. Her intense work ethic and sense of fairness make her a role model to be admired. One of her colleagues stated "I am touched by her grace under pressure and I trust and value the advice she provides. She is definitely one hard act to follow!" On behalf of the MIT community, we are pleased to present Doreen Morris with an MIT Excellence Award for Building Bridges.
