It can be nerve-racking, for both parents and teens, when college students don’t have an answer to the question, “What do you want to do?” Parents may wonder how the student will move from a major into a career, or even whether a specific major is required to be successful. Before devoting a significant amount of time and money to a four-year college, parents and students should think about their educational goals and how to achieve them. In this workshop, we will discuss:
- What majors mean and don’t mean
- How a potential major can impact the college search
- Possible career paths based on different majors, and potential growth careers of the future
- How to make use of resources at the high school and college levels
- How to support a student in the discovery process
