2017 MIT Excellence Awards + Collier Medal ceremony
The first award in this category goes to the Director of Finance and Operations at MIT Press. His name is Brent Oberlin, and he’s been at The Press for just over a year, but he’s made a profound impression on his colleagues. During his brief tenure, Brent has created a climate of collaboration, experimentation, and respect that makes his coworkers eager to get on the train to work everyday.
Brent’s colleagues say that he has given them free rein to be creative and to experiment. “He welcomes our input, no matter what our role at The Press. Brent shows his appreciation for our efforts, even if that new idea doesn’t quite pan out. He is proud of us for pursuing it.”
Another colleague said, “Bringing out the best in people and modeling a collaborative, innovative work environment is not always easy. Brent has done a remarkable job of making our departments more cooperative—and that has made us better colleagues…and a better Press.”
